Gold anyone?

California history- centers around Gold, right? Well, some of it anyway. Today we went to Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park to learn about the gold mining in the foothills near Sacramento. It was so fun to learn how people panned for gold in the river (which still has some gold in it! A tiny speck is worth $5!). There were some historic buildings and a mill- and a bit about the few members of the Mormon Batallion who were hired to help build the mill (they were coming up from the Mexican war). The scenery was INCREDIBLE - beautiful green valleys and forest, and of course the weather was perfect.
How many monkeys hanging in the tree! Cynthia wanted to climb higher, but I wouldn't let her . . .

Up on the rocks we found hollowed out divits where Indian women used to grind nuts and grain.

It looks like you had such a fun time! My kids love the Jelly Belly factory, it's about 20 minutes from where I grew up. We have to make a visit every time we go visit my family. Last time Devon had serious issues about wearing the hat, he DID NOT want to put it on his head. And he was adamant that he doesn't touch a jelly bean. Devon. Sigh.
We miss you guys! It's much funner to excercise with my partner!
