Fun Halloween weekend!
My parents came up to visit for the weekend- we had a blast! I love when they visit- it is fun, fun, fun. I was feeling a bit dreary- so this weekend really helped lift my spirit. Before my parents arrived on Halloween, I helped in Cynthia's kindergarten class for their Halloween party. It was so fun- I love those little kids!
That night, we went trick or treating and to the ward Halloween carnival with my parents. What a fun night! Lillian dressed as a bee, Cynthia was Cinderella, Marcus was Spongebob (our homemade costume), Jon was a blonde dracula, I was a witch (gave me an excuse to wear fake eye lashes- it was FUNKY feeling!).
After the kids were in bed we watched one of my FAVORITE Halloween movies- Aresenic and Old Lace - - an old Carey Grant movie that is one of the funniest movies ever (see below). Saturday my parents took us to the corn maze. Even though it was drizzling rain- we had a great time! We enjoyed the pumpkin chucker- which they let us do for free since it was one of their last days open. We also had fun eating out (always a huge treat)!
My parents!
My mom and the pumpkin chucker!
As an added bonus - - here is a clip from "Arsenic and Old Lace". It is 8 minutes long, so if you don't have time to watch all of it - - jump forward to about 5 minutes right after he finds a body in the window seat . . .

beautiful pictures and such a fun weekend!
HOW FUN! Your mom and dad are so cute, and Becky, I cannot believe how much you look like your mom! I'm so glad you guys had fun- Halloween is a great holiday to celebrate with young grandkids! My dad just went to visit my sister, and her kids LOVED having him there on Halloween (and my kids were sad he wasn't here)!
Becky, I really wanted to thank you for your comment on my blog. You said, "I don't have any great advice" at the beginning, but yours was the best advice I got! "With the depth of trials and sacrifices comes the depth of love and purpose". YOU ARE SO RIGHT, and I have thought before too, that the reason we love our kids so much IS because we love the ones we serve.
I totally agree, and of all the comments left on that rant, yours was the one that really touched me! I had a similar experience to the one you wrote about Cynthia a few weeks ago; Ivy's Kindergarten teacher e-mailed me to tell me that during class, the students were describing things they do in their families, and Ivy said, "I follow my mom wherever she goes because we love each other." And, it totally made me well up with tears, because Ivy DOES follow me all day long, and usually I am scolding her to get out of my way! I feel like she is constantly underfoot, and it's 10 times harder to get things done with kids in my way all the time. But, she does know that I love her, and to hear that she said "we love each other" to her teacher... I know I'm sleep-deprived b/c I totally cried!!!
It's just SO HARD to keep myself upbeat and motivated day after day, and I think exhaustion has a lot to do with it. Maybe Satan has a little bit to do with it too...
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for your friendship Becky. I LOVE your thoughtful comments, and feel SO LUCKY to have your friendship. You are one of the members that I view as perfect, and I know I'LL NEVER measure up to you, but I am COMPLETELY honored that you include me in your circle of friends! Thanks for your advice, encouragement, and friendship Becky- I appreciate it more than you know!
Thanks HEAVENS for Blogging!!!
The costumes are great. Cynthia looks like such a princess. Wearing fake eyelashes is AWESOME. I love it. It looks like you guys had a great Halloween. That is great your parents can visit and be close.
Becky, thanks for the comment on the blog. I am expecting it to be hard but at least he will be in the same town as us and not thousands of miles away. Maybe the time away has helped us prepare for long grueling hours. We will take one day at a time and learn to become more independent. I wish we were closer to our families for some moral support and of course babysitting but life can't be perfect right. ANyway, good luck with the rest of internship year!
I am so glad that your parents came to visit you. Love the pics! Looks like you all had a great Halloween.
Absolutely love your pictures Becky. My favorite one is of Jon attacking you. He was channeling Edward wasn't he. :o) LOL Love ya
